Happy Halloween ~ A Look back...

This is the first year since I've had my children that I didn't request Halloween off from work.

They're older now and I don't have class parties to work or school parades to attend so off to work I went! I'm actually sad about it!  :(

I didn't even decorate for Halloween this year!
I wasn't feeling it.

I talked about my stance on decorating for Halloween last year and you can read about it in this post here.

2006

Last year I did decorate my house for Halloween as I've done for many years in the past.

You can check out my "Elegant Halloween Dining Room"

I shared my family room decorated for Halloween in this post!
It's crazy to look back at our fireplace before it's transformation.

You can check out that transformation here!

One thing I love most about when I have decorated for Halloween is looking back at all of the kids costumes throughout the years.

As the kids have gotten older they like to wear scary costumes or costumes with masks.  I'm not a fan of them so I always make them take the masks off so that I can get a picture!

We try and dress Bella up for Halloween too but as you can see in the above picture...it's not her favorite thing to do!  :)

We're passing out full size candy bars tonight!!!  Stop by my house if you live in my neck of the woods.

I hope you have a safe and fun Halloween!

Friday Favorites ~ A Red Christmas

I had a little extra time before I had to pick my daughter up from work the other day, so Home Goods seemed like the perfect spot to kill some time!

I found myself heading straight to the Christmas aisle.  I seriously can't wait to start decorating for Christmas!  Please don't roll your eyes at me.  I know it's still only the middle of October but I can't help it.  I'm super excited to get my Christmas bins out!

The "Denim" Cabinet

I've been having a hard time bringing myself to blog with everything that is going on in California with our fires.  I live approximately 80 miles south of the Napa area and to say that this has hit close to home is an understatement.
Thank you to everyone that has donated their time and money to help with this devastation.
Please continue to pray for the lives that this has affected.

A couple of months ago I came across this little cabinet on Craigslist.  I wish I would have kept a picture of it in its original state but I didn't.
It was a reddish brown wood color.  Not very pretty.
What attracted me to it where its turned legs and carvings.
I talked the seller down to a decent price because it had been listed for a long time with no bites.

I brought it home and it just sat in my garage for days....
until finally inspiration struck!

This is a piece from pottery barn and I love how it resembles denim to me.  That's the inspiration I needed to get started on the cabinet.

I did a search on Pinterest to see if there were any pieces painted with a denim look and I came across the above kitchen cabinets.  I used both pictures above as my inspiration for the cabinet.

I started out by first painting the piece with a navy blue latex paint I had on hand.
It took two coats to get the full coverage I was after.

I then spray painted (yes spray painted) the carvings and edges of the piece as well as the turned legs with gold spray paint.

I went over the piece with one coat of Miss Mustard Seed's artissimo milk paint and then heavily distressed it with 220 grit sand paper.
I sealed it with Miss Mustard seed's Tough Coat.

Here she is all finished!
I love how the gold is peeking through.
Doesn't she look like your favorite pair of faded jeans?

It's silky smooth to the touch.  These pictures truly don't do it justice.

I left the inside original.  I wiped it down with some hemp oil and that really revived the wood.

I really want to keep this piece but I don't have a place for it.  (big sigh)
I staged it with a few fall pieces.

Speaking of Fall... my home is decorated and ready for Fall!  I'm hoping to get pictures taken and will be sharing my Fall Home Tour soon.

The "Denim" cabinet is currently for sale at the Rancho Co-Op where I'm a vendor.

Thanks for stopping by!

Transformation Tuesday ~ Beach Waves Dresser

Where do I begin....

There are no words for the tragedy that our Country has suffered. As I watched the footage from the Las Vegas shooting yesterday, I felt numb.

Today I watched with tears streaming down my face as they released the names and pictures of some of the victims that were killed.  All we can do is pray.

We need Jesus.

I contemplated not posting today but then the shooter wins.
We cannot stop living our lives.
We must move forward.
We will never forget.  We will continue to pray, but we will also not give the shooter anymore power.
